Supporting the Formula SAE Club at Honda Technical College Kansai

ICOM supported the Formula SAE club at Honda Technical College Kansai using digital radio equipment.

Honda Technical College Kansai is a vocational school offering specialized programs in automotive development and mechanic training. Its Formula SAE club builds a racing car from scratch each year to compete in the " Formula SAE Japan," where roughly 80 Formula SAE clubs from across the country compete. The competition evaluates not only vehicle safety and driving performance but also concept, design, engineering, and cost management, as well as clubs' ability to logically present and explain these elements.

The "Formula SAE Japan 2026" was held August 2–7 at Aichi Sky Expo (Aichi International Exhibition Center). To meet the need for close communication between the indoor maintenance pit, the outdoor standby area, and the drivers, ICOM selected and provided support with the digital radio device IC-DPR45. By sharing real-time information from drivers during runs—such as any sense of discomfort while cornering—the club was able to make quick adjustments to the vehicle.

Mutsuki Ogawa, captain of the Formula SAE team, expressed his gratitude, saying: "Thanks to ICOM's radios, we were able to communicate instantly even when apart, which was extremely helpful for time management and information sharing. During the runs, we could not only share information but also hear our clubmates' cheers of support, which truly gave us strength."
