Wakayama Icom Supports Children's Radio Communication Experience
Our manufacturing subsidiary, Wakayama Icom Inc, supported a radio communication experience event held on December 24, 2025, for children in Hirogawa town, Wakayama Prefecture.
The event was hosted by the “INAMURA FIRE Project” (Representative: Ms. Mayumi Ohara), a project taking part in the “Arita Area Children's Cafeteria Support Network” that Wakayama Icom supports as a member. Wakayama Icom supported the project by lending radios and providing staff, aligned with its purpose of “fostering the ability to protect oneself (life skills, disaster preparedness, crime prevention) while supporting the creation of safe places for children.”
On the day, twenty children from the local community took part, including those from kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, and after-school day services. First, Wakayama Icom staff explained the usefulness of radios for direct communication when smartphones become unavailable during disasters or emergencies, along with how to use them. Afterwards, they conducted a training exercise simulating an emergency, such as “a child collapsing,” where participants used radios to call for help from staff who were acting as firefighters. The participating children listened intently with curiosity to the voices coming from the radios and spoke to them, enjoying the training session.
Children who took part said, “It was my first time using a radio, but it was fun.” Staff from Wakayama Icom who took part commented, “It was great to see the children enjoying themselves, and we hope this event sparked their interest in radios.”
