Supporting Scouting Event at Icom Narayama R&D Center

Icom supported the “Radio Scouting in Icom Narayama R&D Center 2025” event, which was held on 29-30th March 2025, to help young scouts become familiar with radio waves and communications.

The event was organized by the Nippon Boy Scout Amateur Radio Club, and a total of 26 scouts from prefectures across Japan gathered at our Narayama R&D Center. This was the third time that Icom has supported the event.

Young scouts participated in various programs such as contest operation (CQ Worldwide WPX Contest SSB), treasure hunts using FM radio, and trial operations, depending on license status.

Icom supported the event by providing facilities including one of the largest antennas in Japan (maximum height: 51 meters above the ground), radio equipment, a log-cabin operation room, accommodation, and lecture and operational support from Icom staff.

One young scout who tried contest operation with assistance of an instructor said happily, “This was the first time that I have communicated by radio since I got my amateur radio license. It was a challenge for me to speak English, but I got confidence from this experience, and I would like to do it again.”

Mr. Taro Adachi, the representative of the organizer, said “we are very grateful to be able to hold this event again this year in such a wonderful environment. We believe that the scouts experienced the fun of amateur radio and fascination of radio waves through the various programs.

Icom Inc., will continue to support the activities of the scouts through amateur radio.
