Supporting the event for elementary school students to experience communication with the International Space Station
Icom supported ARISS on 29 July 2024 that is the event to experience communication to the International Space Station for students.
ARISS, (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) is a program by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) that offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of amateur radio by talking directly with crewmembers of the ISS (International Space Station). This time, the event was sponsored by the Japan Amateur Radio League, Nara Branch.
As this event was the first in Nara Prefecture, we provided the Icom Narayama Research Institute (Nara City, Nara Prefecture), as the venue. The IC-905 was also used as an amateur radio device for communication. We also supported a preparatory learning for students, installation of equipment such as antennas, and venue management.
Fifteen students from Tsubai Elementary School and Sakyo Elementary School in Nara city took part in this event. They asked questions they had prepared in advance study in English and enjoyed communication with the astronaut about 10 minutes.
The detail is also introduced in the following.
