Human Rights Initiatives

Human Rights Risk Management

About the Icom Group Human Rights Policy

Since the “Ruggie Framework”, which centers on the basic approach of “protect, respect and remedy” regarding corporate activities and human rights, was approved by the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2008, the ideas of this framework have been successively introduced into international CSR guidelines and the policies of the United Nations and European Union.

In 2011, as the negative impact of corporate activities on human rights increased due to the advancement of globalization, and international discussions on corporate responsibility for human rights violations caused by corporate activities became more active, the UN Guiding Principles, one of the most important international frameworks for “business and human rights”, was unanimously supported by the UN Human Rights Council.

Based on these UN Guiding Principles, the Japanese government has created the “Guidelines for Respecting Human Rights in Responsible Supply Chains”, and is encouraging not only companies that export overseas, but also small and medium-sized companies in Japan to respect human rights.

In the future, legislation and other regulations in line with the UN Guiding Principles will be enacted in countries around the world, and when bidding for government contracts, the activities of companies to respect human rights, including their supply chains, will be verified. This is expected to become one of the conditions for bidding not only overseas, but also for government contracts in Japan.

ICOM has also established the “Icom Group Human Rights Policy” as an initiative in accordance with the “Guidelines for Respecting Human Rights in Responsible Supply Chains”.

This policy sets out the matters that those engaged in Icom's business should comply with, and by making this policy public, we are communicating our expectations that all stakeholders, including business partners and suppliers who may be affected by our business, as well as our officers and employees, will promote initiatives to respect basic human rights and comply with labor standards. In addition to making our policy known to our business partners when we begin new business relationships, we will also actively encourage appropriate action through stakeholder engagement, such as conducting our own surveys using the ongoing SAQ (Self-Assessment Questionnaire). Based on this policy, we will continue to further promote initiatives to respect human rights in our business activities.

Personal Information Protection

Based on our corporate philosophy and in order to live up to the trust of our customers and society, we have established a basic policy for information security to protect all information assets we handle, including information accumulated in the course of business and information entrusted to or obtained by us from various threats, to ensure and maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and to ensure business continuity.

Forced Labor in the Supply Chain

Our “Procurement Policy” requires suppliers to respect the fundamental human rights of their employees in their business activities and to strive to provide a safe and clean work environment, prohibit forced labor, inhumane treatment, child labor, and discrimination, pay appropriate wages and manage working hours, and create a safe work environment.

Diversity

As people's lifestyles diversify due to the declining birthrate, aging population, and globalization, we believe that diversity of human resources is important to continue our growth as a company that is chosen by a wide range of customers.

As part of our management strategy, we are working to create an organization in which each and every employee has equal opportunities to maximize their abilities. By embracing and utilizing diversity, including gender equality, we will be conscious of “diversity and inclusion,” believing that “equal opportunity” is the state we should aim for, in which all people are given equal opportunities.

Human Resource Development of Employees

In the “Medium Term Business Plan 2026”, we have positioned human resource development as one of our most important measures to strengthen our management foundation for the continuous development of our corporate infrastructure. We consider the development of human resources at all levels to be of the utmost importance. In addition to actively promoting collaboration with other companies and acquiring companies, we are working to develop and retain the next generation of human resources and energize the company for continuous development by encouraging the progression of a training system and environment that supports the growth of each and every employee.
