Icom’s Industry-academia Collaboration Program with Kyoto Seika University.
Icom is cooperating with Kyoto Seika University in the “Product Design Application Practicum” as part of an industry-academia collaboration program. The aim of the practical training, which focuses on "Communication via Wireless Communication", is to provide students with the opportunity to learn about the usage scenarios of various types of wireless devices, how they should be used, the design process in the development field, and to enhance their knowledge and skills in product design.
The practical training is planned for four months from April to July, 2025. Fourteen third-year students from the Product Design Department of the University's Faculty of Design will take part. This is the third time that Icom has cooperated with the program. In this curriculum of the practical training, students conduct research and analysis of the actual conditions of radio use, design concepts based on usability, make rough sketches, and create 3D models. Icom product design staff advise and evaluate the students' designs and provide practical design concepts.
On the first day of practical training, the students visited Icom Inc. headquarters in Osaka and learned the basic usage of radios and the concept of design and usability. They also visited the showroom where various radios developed by Icom are on display, and were able to touch and hold radios and check the button layout and feel of operation.
